Shrewsbury House (aka "The Shewsy") is a Youth and Community Centre based in Everton, Liverpool. The focus of the Shewsy is to meet the educational, social and spiritual needs of the local community, with a specific priority for children and young people. The genuine enthusiasm, warmth and, where necessary, compassion shown by the staff who work at The Shewsy has remained fixed in the memory, together with the visible enjoyment and pleasure the children and young people gained from spending time there.
We both spent a week working at The Shewsy in 1997 and 1998 respectively and found it a hugely rewarding and informative experience. The children and young people who attend The Shewsy come from wide-ranging and diverse backgrounds. The Shewsy provides access to resources, information and advice which many would otherwise not benefit from and strives to enable young people to develop their own identity whilst recognising, appreciating and understanding the identity of others.
